abacus learning - aloha mind math

What is Abacus Learning?

The abacus is a tool invented by the Mesopotamians, and improved as a mathematical tool by the Greek scholar Tetramachus. It was used in China for more than 900 years as a mathematical instrument.

Abacus is an incredible tool not only for math calculation but the process of calculation also improves the overall performance of the human mind. ALOHA program use the abacus for teaching the basics of mental arithmetic and improving both right and left brain development which is one of the keys to the ALOHA methodology.

Benefits of Abacus Learning

  • Solving Math operations with Accuracy and speed
  • Ability to concentrate and pay attention
  • Creativity and visualization capacity
  • Listening and observational skills
  • Photographic memory and spatial orientation
  • Self-confidence
  • Analytical skills

ALOHA Mental Arithmetic utilizes the abacus as a fundamental learning element, for their universality and easy handling for children of all ages. Children start to do math operations with help of the abacus and gradually visualize the abacus while doing math operations mentally. With practice and achieving different levels in the program, kids are able to perform math operations (additions, subtraction, divisions, multiplications, square roots, powers, decimal operations, percentages and combined operations) with outstanding speed and with great accuracy, without a calculator or pencil and paper. With this process, the right hemisphere of the brain is stimulated (memory, imagination, concentration, abstraction, etc.), which contributes to the development of the brain.

ALOHA Mind Math stimulates analytical and creative abilities of children, contributing positively to the development of the two cerebral hemispheres (left and right) allowing children to improve their capacity for learning, concentration and observation.

Note for parents
