Vaisakhi Parade Returns to Surrey this Saturday!

The annual Vaisakhi Parade, taking place on April 20, 2019 in Surrey, British Columbia, will once again host a joyous and a lively and celebratory event that marks the birth of the Sikh faith, pays tribute to the harvest and commemorates one of the most important days in the Sikh calendar, the creation of the Khalsa. The Khalsa was founded to fight adversity over 300 years ago and has since continued to be at the heart of Sikhism.

Vaisakhi is celebrated worldwide to recognize the involvement and importance of this heroic group of people. This year’s celebration is deemed as one of the largest of its kind in the world and is expected to draw a record-breaking crowd of more than 500,000 people. The community event is free and invites everyone to enjoy one of the most important elements of the annual festival, the delicious foods of India. In celebration of the Parade, hundreds of local businesses and individual families will offer free food to the public.

For more than 20 years, the parade has been held in Surrey and has brought together crowds that have reached an estimated count of 500,000 in the largest Khalsa Day Parade held outside of India. It is an occasion of performance, live music, decorated floats and food and drink complimentary of local residents and businesses. The annual Vaisakhi Parade invites people of all cultures and religions to experience the joyous day and savor the unique food and entertainment.

Parade Route: The Khalsa Day Parade is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:00 am at the Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar, located at 12885-85 Avenue. The Parade will conclude there at approximately 5:00pm (see map for route).
